The SpaceRacing season got away to a great start! The Introductory event was on Ken Wust Reserve at Quarry Hill. It rained – and rained, but eased off about the time people started to go out, which was good! The area isn’t that interesting but good for people to start getting back into it.
The first day of competition was at the White Hills Gardens, a more interesting map. The competition was brisk with a lot of last year’s competitors -- and a good roll up of new people. The two new schools we welcomed, Big Hill and Maiden Gully, fielded only one team each for the competition, but what they lacked in numbers they certainly made up for in enthusiasm and skill.

All the events on our Local Event calendar go ahead regardless of weather conditions -- with the exception of Total Fire Ban days.
Saturday Aug 22nd Series 15.
Map: Lyell Forest South (in the Axe Creek area).
Terrain: open forest, not as steep as Mandurang.
Organiser: Gary Grealy.
Start times: 12.30 to 2.00 pm. (12.30 to 1.00 pm for Newcomers needing assistance).
Courses: D Course (easy navigation), C (moderate), B (short hard), A (long hard).
Format; line courses with controls to be taken in a 1, 2, 3 etc. order.
From Bendigo travel through Strathfieldsaye towards Lake Eppalock. Turn Right at Axe Creek church (red brick building on the right about 4 kms past Strathfieldsaye) into Axe Creek Rd. Continue for approx 11km and then turn left into Steen’s Rd and follow to the start at end of Steen’s Rd.
At all our local events we have courses suitable for SpaceRacing competitors and parents.
There are club members on hand to help you get started and explain all about the course.
Saturday Aug 29th Bendigo Rocks 1.
Map: Kooyoora.
Organiser: Neil Barr.
From Bendigo, travel to Inglewood on Calder H’way. Continue thru Inglewood on H’way for 7 km, turn left into the Brenanah - Kurtung road. After 9.5 km you reach Brenanah Junction. Follow O signs from here to north end of Kooyoora. 5 courses, with A/B two loops.
Saturday Sept 5th Bendigo Rocks 2.
Map: Mt Alexander North.
Organiser: Julie Flynn.
Four courses.
From Bendigo travel thru Sedgwick, take Nth Harcourt turnoff. At Nth Harcourt reservoir, turn left to Mt Alexander, turn right into Joseph Young Dr.
From Melb. Get off Calder Freeway at Harcourt, continue thru Harcourt on old Calder H’way towards Bendigo, then turn right to Harcourt North. Look for O sign at right turn to north end of Mt Alexander.
